This is an absolutely incredible short interview with Rick Warren,'Purpose Driven Life ' author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren,

Rick said: People ask me, What is the purpose of life?
And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven. One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal.

God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy. We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness. This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer. I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life. No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for. You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems. If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness,'which is my problem, my issues, my pain.' But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others. We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people. You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72 First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit.. We made no major purchases. Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church. Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation. Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves:
Am I going to live for possessions?
Popularity?
Am I going to be driven by pressures?
Guilt? Bitterness?
Materialism?
Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better.

God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do. That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.

IN SEARCH FOR VACCINE...

It was dark and scary. We can hardly see what's inside. It was incredibly dark, filled with zombies everywhere that might catch and paralyse whoever is nearby. But we need to find the clues, that could be everywhere inside the building. The first fifteen went in, Ernest, Darren, Mark Sim, Primy, Kiki, Wei Lun, Marcus, Aaron, Stefan, Alexander, Kee Leong, Lai Yee, Iris, Michael and Davina. Some managed to move their way out and passed the clues to the team outside, some were inside the WHOLE time during the investigation. As time passed, many of them have difficulties finding the clues because some of the clues seems missing and the zombies were becoming more insane. Ernest was upstairs trying on the possibilities of every passwords we gathered. During the investigation and searching in the dark for important clues, Marcus was taped with black tape, Darren was taped with double-sided tape. It was horrifying. Primy and Wei Lun were great investigators, they took many pictures they found in the tunnel and in the labs. Michael has to risk himself to find the right zombie in order to get the next important clue. Sin Huey, Wai Chin, Swee Mei, Henri and Wai Loon have to roam the nearby neigbourhood for clues. In the end, the zombie clan was saved by the pink group. Therefore we are still alive and we are not infected by the zombies as well.

But we have lots of fun sneaking around in the church, avoiding zombies and solving clues. It really takes a lot of courage to risk yourself in the dark buidling with obstacles and zombies. Bravo to Iris, Kiki, Stefan, Alexander, Aaron, Darren, Michael, Davina, Primy and Wei Lun.

Wow... it was tiring and fun. We have to spot the difference in a park, climb up the super high staircase at batu caves and even SING at the lrt station. After all the climbing and running, we finally reach metropolitan park and we were famished. We had very nice fried rice, cakes and desserts, cheese and egg sandwiches and COLD drinks. Thanks to Ernest, he brought his ice box and thanks for making the sandwiches for us. It was a fun time gathering by lake with good food and beautiful scenery. Amazing Race- The Beginning

Everyone was filled with great anticipation as this long awaited day approached. It was finally the day of The Amazing Race, where the toughest, twisted, mind boggling games would be presented for us to tackle.

Of course, group Joshua wasn’t left behind. We were already whooping and cheering as we arrived at the Mobil Field although the sky was darkened by rain clouds. Each group was briefed with the various tasks we were supposed to finish. There was the triathlon, the Running Maths event (where participants would have to run and solve difficult Mathematical questions at the same time without any assistance!), The Crossword Puzzles, and last but not least, the Bible Trivia.

With Michael Loo as our macho looking sports manager, everyone was quickly divided into their respective “professions” and the games begun!!!
Not long after, loud cheers could be heard as Aaron, Kenneth, John, Michael and Ernest finished the Triathlon event (which involved chair hopping, cycling and running) coming in first place. We could see everyone else flipping open their bibles and rolling on the ground trying to figure out the Bible Trivia questions led by Hooi Ling and Marcus while Carol and friends was running around the field racking their brains to solve the Maths problems given to them. Not to mention the others who were busy solving the Crossword Puzzles.

Although the rain suddenly came down in torrents in the middle of the game, Group Joshua quickly hurried back to church, not giving up and finishing what was left to tackle. At last, everyone did a great job in finishing the race, and all the sweating, cheering, memorizing and solving was not in vain as we tied up with Group Samuel in 2nd place. Everyone went home with a smile on their face that day knowing well that we done our very best.

So… Group Joshua, at the top of your lungs….. WAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!

Grand day - Olympic day

February – Saturday , It was a grand day. Everyone was hyped up and ready. We have trained, and practiced and have been looking forward to this day ever since our stomachs can handle it after Chinese new year.

The day started with the groups gathering at the Mobil field. Each group in their own splendorous colour. Gideon in white and gold, Samuel in their bright pink, moses in earthy brown and of course Joshua in the life giving, soothing green. After marching into position the event was officialized by the lighting of the torch by the previous year’s marathon runner. And after the flame was alight, the games began

Group Joshua ran and jumped and relayed. We were impressive when we won and we were even more impressive when we didn’t because of the encouragement I saw, the support, the cheering and the friends that were around each and everyone despite the results. That is not to say we didn’t win at all. Check out the list below of who made it to the winner’s podium (hooi ling, can you find out the winners and placing with got for each event and place them here)

After the running and the jumping and the futsal and the captain ball, we all headed back to church. And they time everyone had been waiting for, have been practicing for, have been memorizing, sweating, coming out everday day for practice is here, it is cheerleading time.

Gideon was up first with a very cute dance by the girls and the guys did equally well with aaron lee (very young and yau ying) being at the forefront of the guys really grooving it in. Samuel came up decent with some funky dance moves and james (also very young and talented) came up shuffling in a giant battery. Moses came strong with high energy, high powered, high intensity music coupled with great dance moves and action. And then there was Joshua. Joshua started out slow with a hum, slowly trudging out into the dance floor. As the cheerleaders got into position, the music broke out into a rock beat and they did a ballet number. You’re right, a ballet dance in a rock song. Everyone was caught of guard, everyone was cheering and clapping. We then went to our high powered, really loud cheering. Our second dance was also an attention grabber, going the path of hip-hop with a laid back style. Wow-ing the crowd with a cute stylish dance … everyone say “YOUUUUU…..”. then we had the winner. The coup de grace. The pinnacle of all dances. We did the chair dance. There is nothing in writing I can say to describe the dance. You will have to see for yourself. It is just amazing what the guys can do in just one week of practice. John lee looking extremely cool, with Aaron Wong stealing the show (again another young man, seems like a pattern here) with his moves and not forgetting Henry who can really dance. Wow. And finally being the only group with a formation, it was massive, 2 and a half levels high. We really stole the show.

In the end, we all enjoyed ourselves, training was strict and strenuous, but through it all, we grew closer, and bonded. We are slowly becoming more and more like a family. You’ve done well Group Joshua.

We had our makan feast at Michael and Davina's house last Saturday. Rendang wild boar, fried udon, curry chicken, stir-fry vegetables, sambal sotong, nasi lemak, "kuai leng kou", banana chocolate cake and tiramisu were some of the food prepared for us by Uncle David and Aunty Felicia. And of course, US finished ALMOST everything that was served.
We are indeed thankful for the Loo family to open their house and feed us generously and never forget their fellowship with us.

Question 1 : What does the Bible teach about homoseksuality/lesbians?
Answer : The Bible strictly condemned homoseksuality/lesbians for a reason - God made
Adam & Eve for a purpose and Eve's is the suitable helper for Adam. Those involved in homoseksuality/lesbians will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Question 2 : How romantic a guy should be? How can I make him more romantic?
Answer : Being romantic is a characteristic in a guy, girls should be looking more at his spirituality, his maturity, his love and care. A relationship that only focus on material stuff may not be very healthy. Sometimes girsl do like surprises, so guys "sek chou" a bit.

Question 3 : Should I forgive my ex,who has done terrible things to me last time when we were dating? He still do not know the meaning of love, and he is dating another girl.
Answer : It takes time to forgive someone.Try to share, ask for help and have discussion with an adult, someone you trust. How about yourself? Do you know love yourself? Get to know God first, I Corinthians 13 describes about love, and to forgive means to let go.

Question 4: Is it OK to build a relationship if we are still studying?
Answer : Certainly don't encourage because students have greater responsibility to their home and parents, not until you start working. Assume that those already in a relationship while still studying, you must know your priorities. Sometimes, some people when they started to go to college and to work, when they meet new people and friends, they start to compare. Therefore, maturity is very important to handle oneself and spirituality and it can go very far till marriage with God. Put God in your relationship.

Question 5: What due to some reasons that I don't trust my boyfriend? Am I not trusting God that this is His plan for me?
Answer : First of all, get to know yourself, get to know God or else everything around you will always be very jumpy and sensitive.

Question 6 : I am a guy, what is the best way to maintain a relationship when face serious problems?
Answer: Stand up like a man/guy, hold the problem and face it. Don't avoid the problem. Courtship are meant to test out if both party are suitable for one another. Talk to each other.
If break up, break up amicably, have issue resolved nicely with respect for one another.

Question 7 : How is the feeling of true love?
Answer : True love comes from God, learn from God, also involves sacrifices for one another. I Corinthians 13 desribes the charateristics of love.

Question 8 : We are both Christians but sometimes we can be very low self esteem, shall we continue this relationship or move on? What does the Bible say about this? We do still care for one another.
Answer : Caring for one another is not enough. Face it, low self esteem caused by fear and unsure of something. Bible asked us to build relationship with God. Start to pray when problem arises. And worry more about your relationship with God.

Indoor Olympics

It’s the time for INDOOR OLYMPICS. Before the real OLYMPICS take place,
let us first experience the excitement of this specially designed game for us at
the beginning of this year. A very big thankie to all commanders and members
for participating in the games. The games for the day were Sumo Wrestling,
Autumn Breeze Battle and Indoor Water Slide. For the first game, “Sumo Wrestling”,
good job to Lydia Sim for the win against the other SUMO LADIES. As for our
little brother, Wei Lun, bravo for being so courageous! Thumbs up :)

The next game was the Autumn Breeze Battle. We’re glad to have our pro blower,
Mentor Kee Leong, Xian Ling & Davina. Even our sister Iris did a great work.
The last game is all about running and sliding. Ten Joshuarians were willing to
get wet and risk their leng chai and leng luis images to win this final game.
They are our commander, Ernest, Aaron, Xian Ling, John, Kenneth (with the
loud landing XD), Aria, Henri and a few more members. It was indeed a
wonderful and memorable day. What a good start. :)

Be strong, Joshua! , Be courageous, Joshua! WAaaaaaaaaa…..
